I took the exam and i would say probably half of the questions were not spelling the key components out for you. I guessed the answer on 3 of them cause I knew I wouldn't have enough time to try to figure it out . I attempted to answer 2 of them I had a hard time trying to figure out how to determine the level of MDM, could you please explain how one can read the e/m report and determine the MDM w/out using audit tools?

First I would say you shouldn't guess but I know what you are saying. You want to make the best educated guess you can with the information given. In other words you want to "Eyeball it". So, this is what I would ask myself. 1. Can the person get better on there own without intervention? 2. Were test ordered like a Chest X-ray, ultrasound or labs? 3. Did the physician ask for a consult? 4. How much information did the physician have to review to determine a dx? 5. Boils down to how sick of a fella have you got? For example if a child has an ear infection and they get them often the physician knows the Tx. that works and doesn't have to think much about it. On the other hand if you have a child with an ear infection who is also has Type 1 DM and is allergic to the last antibiotic they had given to him. See how the second child needs more thought? The decision on how to treat him is going to take longer and be more detailed.

I hope that helps or gives you a little insight. ;)
